The hike into camp started through deep winter snow, with a few spots reaching up to my knees. A storm earlier in the week had brought down a tree along the trail, and fresh coyote tracks led the way up the canyon. It was a quiet, cold approach that set the tone for the night ahead. This was my second adventure using the Hikenture insulated sleeping pad, and so far it’s been working well. Snow squalls kept pushing through the canyon as I reached camp, so getting shelter set up quickly was the first priority. Once everything was in place, the evening settled into a calm winter night. By morning the skies had cleared, and the temperature dropped to 0°F (–18°C). Even with the cold, it turned into a warm and comfortable night, and the whole trip made for another peaceful winter camp in the mountains.
