A segment from the long running Australian music TV series Countdown, which aired on the ABC from 1974-1987. This particular segment aired during the Countdown episode which originally aired on November 8, 1981, on the ABC. This clip features an interview of Australian band Air Supply, featuring members Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock, conducted by Countdown Talent Co-Ordinator Molly Meldrum. The interview begins with a discussion about their recent success in the United States, comparing it to the Beatles US Top 40 success. Molly also asks Graham and Russell if they have anything to say to the radio stations who have not played their music. Molly interviewed Air Supply earlier that year- that February interview can be viewed at the following link: • Countdown (Australia)- Molly Meldrum Inter... Vaxfacts: Molly’s dig at Australian radio stations not supporting Air Supply is something which continues to this day. Air Supply have always struggled to get the recognition they deserve in their homeland. One of Australia’s most successful acts, Air Supply had eight Top 10 hits in the US and were one of the most popular acts in there, with high radio rotation. Radio airplay in Australia has not been as forthcoming, with many ‘70s/’80s radio stations ignoring them completely, possibly due to the perception of their music being ‘daggy’.
