The village of Mona is set far back in the inland area of Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture. In this small village of 30 households, the Satoimo Matsuri festival (an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property) has been passed down to the present. This is a festival carrying an offering of uniquely piled up satoimo or taro potatoes in a parade to offer them to Junisho Shrine. The Mona potatoes are grown with care all through the year by Tsumiban nakama, in which a pair of households takes charge in turn. This film tries to follow the clues as to how this unique festival has been carried on over the years while introducing the peoples way of life in Mona where they pray for and celebrate the harvest at various occasions throughout the year. ◆Digest: 3 minutes Tateyama City , Chiba Related category: Festival Link to local government or related organization: https://www.city.tateyama.chiba.jp/ To see other regional curtural assets films, please go to Regional Cultural Asset Portal.
