Pompeii for Schools is a ground-breaking cinema event specially created for children aged 7-11. Presented in a lively and informative style designed to engage a young audience, the film explores behind the scenes of the British Museum's blockbuster exhibition Live and death in Pompeii and Herculaneum. Pompeii and Herculaneum were two Roman cities devastated by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Buried in ash and volcanic stones for hundreds of years before being rediscovered, both cities have been partly excavated, revealing many fascinating objects and buildings that tell us about the lives of the Roman people in the 1st century. During Pompeii for Schools children's television presenters Ed Petrie and Naomi Wilkinson, accompanied by children from London primary schools, discover what life was like for Romans living in the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. From blind food tasting and simulating volcanic explosions, to Latin lessons and excavating Roman remains in the British Museum basement, Pompeii for Schools tells the dramatic story of events leading up to the eruption of Vesuvius and its devastating impact on the inhabitants of both cities.
