Today we will look at the new Acrea paint parkers from Copic, These are the first new product they have released since 1998 and Copic reached out to me and asked if I would try them out. They sent me a kit of all 24 colors and some surfaces to try them on. Blick seems to have the best price on single markers and sets: http://shrsl.com/4rwie (Sets on Blick are $19.99 but $26.70 at copic.com) Pros: Very opaque Fine tip hard plastic nib (like the extra fine posca) Sleek attractive design 24 colors *waterproof and lightfast once dry (according to copic website) Cons: Not refillable Not made in Japan like their other products The ink can splatter a bit on a surface that is not totally smooth. These easily wash off glass even though they are touted as waterproof. The plastic is difficult to remove from the markers and every marker needs to be primed before using. Bottom line: These pens are fine, they will do anything an extra fine Posca or any fine tip budget marker will do. On the Copic website, it says the pens are Lightfast but no individual ratings are given so I don't know if I trust that claim. They are mostly waterproof but will wash off glass. I am disappointed that they did not manufacture these in Japan because Japan is known for quality stationery and having them made in China feels like they are trading on their name a bit and with other recent quality control issues they have had with the sketch markers in the past it chips away at my trust of the brand a bit. These markers are beautiful to look at but in use are similar to many others I have tried that cost less. Try a class! https://lindsayweirich.teachable.com NEW!
