On Sunday, June 18th 2023, the submersible, Titan, owned by the company OceanGate, lost communication during a dive to view the wreck of the Titanic. There were five people aboard. After days of search and rescue efforts, a debris field was discovered, with pieces found matching those of Titan. There had been a catastrophic failure and all those aboard had lost their lives. This film aims to cover the background, history and lifespan of OceanGate, from being founded in 2009, to the various expeditions and key moments that led to eventual tragedy. It also aims to cover controversy that surrounded the company and it's CEO, Stockton Rush, both before and after the events of June 18th, 2023. Approximately ten minutes had to be cut from this film, this was mostly clips from the BBC documentary "The Travel Show: Take Me To Titanic", which followed a group of people on their dive in Titan. These clips showed the sub's interior, as well as behind the scenes at OceanGate and some problems they encountered during the dive. The documentary itself is available to view on the BBC iPlayer website. Thoughts are with those who lost their lives aboard Titan, and with their families.
