Acoustic Guitar Comparison: Dowina Danubius GACE-S vs. another western guitar 1st part: Same woods, same strings, different body size (and shape) - Grand Auditorium vs. Jumbo In December 2014 I saw a guitar in an instrument shop that fascinated me a lot because it was absolutely lightwight and very easy to play because its neck was with 45mm (1,77") a little bit broader than usually. It was a Dowina 999 GACE-S, made in Slowakia. I had never heard of this brand name. When I returned to the shop, unfortunately the guitar was already sold. In 2015, Dowina changed the names of the product line, the 999 series is now called Danubius and is also a bit upgraded: the fretboard used to be rosewood and is now ebony. I couldn't find the 999 GACE-S anywhere, not even in Chech or Slovakian online shops. In the Netherlands, at the American Guitar Store / World Music Sales in Apeldoorn, I finally found its bigger sister, the 999 JC-S, a wonderful Jumbo-sized guitar, and I was close to give up to look for the guitar I once had seen. But finally Willem from the American Guitar Store could get the successor model and sold it to me. I was so happy! :-) In the first part of this little series I compare my Dowina Danubius GACE-S with my Dowina 999 JC-S. They have the same strings and the same woods (except the fretboard): solid spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck, but a different body form and size. The Jumbo body accents the bass notes notably more than the Grand Auditorium body.
