Gudeg Yu Djum is the main kitchen as well as a traditional culinary food stall in Yogyakarta, pioneered by an unyielding person named Djuwariyah or better known as "Yu Djum", since 1951. Djuwariyah was born from a family that previously owned a culinary business typical of Jogja, namely Gudeg. Since he was a teenager, he has dreamed of building his own gudeg restaurant. Djuwariyah is determined to realize her dream slowly by selling grass to feed the neighbors around her house as initial capital to buy equipment and all kinds of gudeg cooking needs. The first time Djuwariyah peddled his homemade gudeg in Widjilan Village, precisely to the south of the Widjilan arch, at that time it was still a small stall with very simple tables and chairs, while the kitchen where the gudeg was cooked was in Karangasem Village – Mbarek, Jalan Kaliurang KM 4.5 CT III /22. Djuwariyah never gave up selling her gudeg merchandise, using a rickshaw back and forth little by little to collect capital to buy land and house buildings. In 1985, the Gudeg Yu Djum food stall opened in Widjilan. The use of the name Yu Djum originated from customers who often called "Yu" which was an abbreviation of mbakyu (a call for older people specifically for women in Javanese) and "Djum" which was the short name of Ibu Djuwariyah herself. From year to year Gudeg Yu Djum began to be known by the people of Yogyakarta and its surroundings. As the times progressed, in 1993 the main kitchen located in Karangasem Village also functioned as a food stall to sell gudeg, because its function as a kitchen and a food stall located in Karangasem Village was called Gudeg Yu Djum Pusat. Until now, the development of the Gudeg Yu Djum food stall is growing rapidly. Several branches have been built to meet the needs of customers in several locations that are easily accessible and tend to be strategic. source: gudegyudjumpusat.com
