As I walk through This wicked world Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity. I ask myself Is all hope lost? Is there only pain and hatred, and misery? And each time I feel like this inside, There's one thing I wanna know: What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Ohhhh What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? And as I walked on Through troubled times My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes So where are the strong And who are the trusted? And where is the harmony? Sweet harmony. Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry. What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Ohhhh What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? First and foremost, please visit Bruce Thomas’ page, send him your best, and buy one of his books. I recently bought a copy of “Rough Notes” and am looking forward to finding the time to sit and enjoy it. His latest book is his second outing on the topic of Bruce Lee and is getting rave reviews. https://www.brucethomas.co.uk/?page_i... He’s also very accessible on FaceBook, if you are a fan. I’ve told the story before, but, back in 2011, I had just returned to work from an extended absence after receiving treatment for throat cancer. My spirits were somewhat “downhearted.” Out of the blue, I received a message via YouTube from a “Bruce Thomas” letting me know that he’d put a couple of my Elvis Costello/Bruce Thomas covers up on his personal web page. I was skeptical, to say the least, but it actually was “The” Bruce Thomas and I can’t tell you how my spirits were lifted. As much as I hate to politicize my channel, I have to say how troubled I am about my country’s recent selection for president. It seems to have awakened a darkness that I, naively, thought had been cast into the shadows long ago. My wife, Lynn, and I have many friends (both virtual and actual) who fit into (what appears to be) the target groups of the incoming administration. I’m just here to say that, on our part, the darkness that has been awakened, will be countered with as much light as we can possibly muster in order to honor our LGBT/Non-White/Immigrant…friends and family. The song is “(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding” as recorded by Elvis Costello & The Attractions and may or may have not have appeared on the “Armed Forces” album which came out in 1979. There is some confusion, as the song was originally written and recorded by Nick Lowe’s band, “Brinsley Schwarz” and then rerecorded by Elvis……with Nick Lowe producing. I’ll leave it to you to sort it out, but the bottom line is that Bruce Thomas playing the bass on this version. I probably could have chosen a better bass for the job, but I was on a bit of a Spector binge. Happy Thanksgiving to all.
