Seventh grader Alex Fleming Lake wondered why he was the only African-American young man on his swim team, and he discovered, by taking a long journey back into the history of segregation in swimming, that it is not just a matter of happenstance. Alex reminds us that integration is not achieved by having only one person who looks like him on his swim team, and that the reverberations of racism and segregation are still with us. Alexander Fleming Lake was born in the Caribbean on an island called Anguilla. He has two sisters and goes to The Benjamin School in South Florida. He likes to swim, and he is on a country club swim team. His mom is a lawyer and his dad is a businessman. His Tedx Talk is about African Americans and segregation at swimming pools. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
