Track: Watkins Glen Long Course Car: Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) '22 Grid Position: P13 Finish Position: P9 For the final round of the series, we headed to the iconic Watkins Glen. This was a track I wasn't overly familiar with, but after some solid practice sessions, I managed to get my pace down into the 1:46s. It’s been a season of learning, and I wanted to finish on a high note. The Preparation: I took a much more technical approach to this round. I spent time setting up all five profiles on my DD+ wheel so I could hot-swap to find the best feel for the car/track combo. I’ve even started a spreadsheet to log these settings, which will be a massive asset for future seasons to track what works for specific cars and layouts. The Qualifying: Qualifying was a high-pressure 5-minute session with only one true hot lap. I didn't quite get the perfect run and ended up at the back of the grid in P13. Knowing I had a mountain to climb, I decided to start the race on the Hard tyre, hoping to save the faster Mediums for a late-race charge. The Strategy: The plan worked perfectly. While I lost a few places early on to the Medium-runners, I could see them starting to struggle around Lap 7 and 8. I pushed my Hard tyres one lap further than the rest, finally boxing at the end of Lap 9 for a fresh set of Mediums. The Race: With the Mediums on, the comeback was officially on. The car felt transformed—I had the grip and the trust to really push the Porsche, though I had to manage the wear to ensure they lasted until the finish. As the laps ticked down, the pressure started to get to the field. Several cars lost control or saw their pace fall off a cliff. On the final lap, the car ahead picked up a track limits penalty, allowing me to capitalize on their mistake. The Result: After starting P13, I crossed the line in P10 and was promoted to P9 following penalties. It’s been a tough GTWS 2026 season, but this race proved that strategy, planning, and practice are the keys to success. We take these lessons and the P9 finish into the next season!
