The End of Class 20s to Silverhill

February 1992 saw the last workings of Class 20s on the Silverhill Colliery Branch. These shots show 20169 and 20215 on the 25th Feb. These shots were taken deep inside the colliery and compliment my previous cab ride clip leaving the colliery. By March 20s had finished on the branch and the services to Ratcliffe power station were in the hands of Class 60s. The final shot was taken on the 27th of Feb and shows the first class 60 on the branch 60067 at Tibshelf sidings.. This was the shape of things and by March 20s were finished on the branch. By the end of 1992 Silverhill Colliery was closed despite it being profitable and producing high grade coal. It was Silverhill that started the DUM a breakaway union, despite assurances from the Tories even this pit was closed.
