Local historian & author Jonathan Morgan talks to Nic Groombridge about some of the families that have shaped Brecon’s history. Hear about famous personalities and families who have influenced Brecon's long history, including Henry Vaughan, Swan of Usk. Jonathan Morgan is a well-known local character. He was educated at Brecon’s Christ College, then Royal Military Academy Sandhurst followed by Aberystwyth, Cardiff and Glamorgan Universities. He also taught at U.W.I.C. (now Cardiff Metropolitan) for nine years. Jonathan’s family has a great sporting tradition and is of military renown. He followed in their footsteps by being a sportsman himself and served with the Royal Regiment of Wales as a Captain. He was invalided out of the Army with PTSD or related illness in 1980 following a horrific tour of Northern Ireland in the Ardoyne and Bone districts of Belfast. The most recent of Jonathan’s books, Essays on Welsh Politicians through the Ages, was published in 2022 (Cambria Books) and describes a set of politicians from Wales or with Welsh ancestry who have had a very wide range of impacts on history and who date from the sixteenth century to today.
