Sri Lanka weighing US bribery accusations against Adani Group

#srilanka #colombo #adanigroup In the wake of bribery allegations against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani in the United States, Sri Lanka’s Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister Nalinda Jayathissa said on Tuesday that the Lankan government was taking the matter seriously. He said the government was reviewing Adani's ongoing projects in Sri Lanka, however, no decision had been made yet. U.S. prosecutors have charged Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar and six others for their alleged roles in a 265-million dollars’ scheme to bribe Indian officials to secure power supply deals. Adani Ports, India's largest private ports operator, owns 51% of a new container terminal project expected to begin operations next year in Sri Lanka's city of Colombo. The Adani Group has dismissed the accusations as "baseless and denied" them in a parallel civil case, adding it would "seek all possible legal recourse".
