G'day everyone, One of the most demanding things I can do on this lathe is to try and part on it. As much As I try to beef up the rigidity on the lathe, the fact is that it is still a small lathe, and there is a lot of torque acting on the parting blade, owing to the amount of stick out needed. I have broken a lot of parting blades and carbide tool holders, and whilst the ones I use are not the most expensive, it is still $40-50 I have to shell out every time the holder gets damaged. So I am borrowing a solution of the Sherline book and testing out a rear mounted parting blade. Instead of the tool getting gulled into the work, a rear mounted blade should push the tool away and saw the tool from snapping. I did try this once on the old sieg c3 but I had little control over the RPM and it was difficult to assess whether it worked there. I hope you enjoy the video. Cheers
