Ep. 18 | Kruger National Park – SHINGWEDZI in Summer

After spending a few days in Shingwedzi, we start day 29 in Kruger National Park with a beautiful sunrise over the Shingwedzi River. Our plan for the day: explore the northern S56 route – one of the most scenic drives in the park. But after all the rain, things don’t go quite as planned… most of the roads are flooded and impassable! Still, the drive offers stunning views and some amazing birdlife. From hornbills and eagles to storks and even a secretary bird – this part of the park is a paradise for bird lovers. Back in camp, we’re joined by some curious visitors (including ground squirrels and hornbills), before heading out for our New Year’s Eve night drive. And it doesn’t take long until we spot two male lions patrolling their territory – the perfect way to end the year! The next day, we slowly make our way south towards Letaba Rest Camp, crossing the Tropic of Capricorn and stopping for lunch in Mopani with a view over the dam. Once in Letaba, we set up camp and go on a short afternoon drive to explore the area.
