Opened in 1956, the Pennsauken Mart was a staple for bargain hunters from South Jersey and the surrounding areas. On any given Friday or Saturday night, hoards of shoppers could be found meandering along its two massive corridors of vendors and flashing lights, in search of deals. Merchants pitched their variety of items like cologne, lingerie, bicycles and samurai swords. Pizza, soft pretzels, Chinese food and ice cream satisfied the appetites of hungry patrons as they shuffled past one another, along the crowded Mart aisles. Having been in business for just shy of 50 years, the Pennsauken Mart was closed in 2006 and demolished the following year to make way for a community of new town homes. *This video was shot by myself, with the assistance of my Dad in January of 2004. My Dad and I entered through the Mart's north entrance (Rt 73), walked both aisles while stopping at various points including the soft pretzel store, and eventually exiting where the video began.
