Recently, a surprising number of people have been telling me the same thing: “Don’t go back to the UK.” After spending years living in Vietnam, I’ve decided to return home, to join my mother living in an eco community in Scotland. But when I mention it to people, the reaction is often the same — a warning. In this video I talk about some of the reasons people give, from the weather and rising cost of living to the feeling that society has become more divided in recent years. It’s not meant to be negative — just an honest reflection on the conversations I’ve been having. After living abroad for a long time, the idea of going “home” isn’t always as simple as it sounds.
