According to the police chief, a molestation suspect who was briefly imprisoned in 2018 and has been out on bail since then allegedly shot the survivor's father in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district on Monday. On the way to the hospital, the girl's father died. In a video statement posted on Twitter, Hathras Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal said that the man who died had filed a case against Gaurav Sharma for molestation in July 2018. “After a month in prison, the perpetrator was released on parole. Both families have been hostile to each other since then.” Since September, when four upper-caste men raped and brutally assaulted a Dalit woman, Hathras has been in the headlines. She died a fortnight later in New Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital from her injuries.
