For more information, visit: https://www.independentage.org/index.... - - - - NHS Continuing Healthcare funding is for people with a high level of health and care needs. You could need this care because of an accident, illness, or disability. If you qualify, the NHS are responsible for arranging and funding your care, as well as your accommodation costs if you need to move into a care home. You need to have an assessment to find out if you qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare. People have to have a ‘primary health need’ to qualify for this funding. This means that you need nursing, care and support services that your local council cannot reasonably be expected to provide for you. A team of health and care professionals will decide whether you have a ‘primary health need’ when you have your assessment. To make this decision, they look in detail at your health and care needs and how intense, complex and unpredictable they are. They will consider your needs in areas such as your need for help with breathing problems, controlling pain or symptoms, moving around, and eating and drinking. To get an assessment, you should speak to a nurse, doctor or social worker. You can also ask the local Clinical Commissioning Group, who arrange health services in your area, for an assessment. If you are already having a care needs assessment from your local council and think you might qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare, ask whether they can also arrange an assessment for this.
