LINES Company rehearsal footage from Concerto for Two Violins that will be performed at Home Season , April 5–14, 2024 at the Blue Shield of California Theater in San Francisco. This Spring Season we presents a triple bill of works by artistic director Alonzo King, including a new work, a reprised ballet, and a reimagining of The Collective Agreement—an acclaimed collaboration with MacArthur Fellow composer Jason Moran and light installation artist Jim Campbell. Originally commissioned for San Francisco Ballet in 2018, King's The Collective Agreement centers on the common good—whether that be universal healthcare or free education. The intimate duets and ensembles in the piece echo the rising tempi of composer Moran’s original score, his first for a symphony orchestra and his eighth for LINES Ballet. Audiences can look forward to music recorded live for this performance by the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, with Moran on piano. In addition, King and the company will present SPRING, a world premiere set to traditional African American spirituals, along with a reprise of 2013’s Concerto for Two Violins, which turns the layers of fugue and counterpoint in Johann Sebastian Bach’s 1730 work into metaphors of human relationships.
