Opened in 1974, Red Star Restaurant is one of the few old-school Cantonese restaurants left in Singapore that still serves dim sum from pushcarts. It was founded by a group of four master chefs — disciples of the legendary Cantonese kitchen in the 1950s. Back in the 1980s, my dad used to bring the whole family here for weekend dim sum. I remember squeezing into the lift, stepping into the bustling hall filled with clinking teacups, aunties pushing dim sum trolleys, and the unmistakable aroma of steamed dumplings. What I love most is how this place brings people together — across generations. These are the classics that made Red Star famous — and kept us coming back: Juicy Har Gao and Siew Mai Fluffy Char Siew Bao Fragrant Lo Mai Gai Silky Chee Cheong Fun Golden, Flaky Egg Tarts and many more... And of course, everything tastes better with a pot of Chinese Tea. Red Star isn’t the newest or the trendiest. But it’s real. It’s where food meets memory. Where old-school charm lives on. And where every bite still tastes like home. If you’ve never been here, give it a try. And if you have — maybe it’s time to come back. Red Star Restaurant Block 54 Chin Swee Rd, #07-23, Singapore 160054 Thanks for joining me on this nostalgic journey.
