These multiple basins were a hive of activity from the 1770's for many years. Goods were ferried in and out or stored in various wharehouses. The Staffs. and Worcs. canal is the feeding route to and from the basins. There are also locks that are an inlet and outlet to the River Severn. This enabled barges and Severn Trows to carry many different goods along the networks. Now it's main use is for leisure and narrow boats activity. Over the years various repairs had taken place and in some areas were just patched up. In 1995 a funding programme was launched to raise enough money to enhance, not just the basins, but the surrounding properties. After 10 years, 2005, the renovation team from British Waterways raised enough money through the likes of the National Lottery fund and other generous grants. It was completed in 2008. This video records the progress over the 3 years - edited to 39 minutes - to highlight it's main achievements. Now, it's a wonderful jewel for Stourport. Do come and visit you wont be disappointed.
