Moving between provinces in Canada: Alberta to the Sunshine Coast, BC

Moving between provinces was an intimidating thought but by doing part of the work ourselves and being really organized, we had a stress-free move from Alberta to the Sunshine Coast, BC. We'd had lots of experience on small moves within Edmonton but this was the first time we would be moving between provinces. We'd heard horror stories about movers holding changing the price once the truck was loaded or movers holding furniture hostage we decided to rent a truck and drive it from Alberta to the Sunshine Coast, BC. We rented the biggest moving truck that U-haul offered (which was WAY too big in retrospect) and hired local movers to load the truck in Edmonton and and another group of movers to unload the truck on the Sunshine Coast, BC. We packed, labeled, and organized all our boxes and had everything ready to be loaded before the moving truck or the movers arrived on the day of our move in Edmonton. Loading the truck went super fast thanks to the expertise of the movers. We were loaded and ready to go by early afternoon. We were excited to move between provinces and we didn't want to leave the loaded truck in front of our house overnight so we decided to leave that afternoon and drive until we got tired. We made a couple of stops along the way for a power snooze and to buy fuel for our car and the moving truck but other than that, we drove all through the night and arrived at the BC Ferries Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal late the next morning. Our movers met us at our new home in Gibsons and unloaded the truck very quickly. We started unpacking that night and returned the moving truck to U-haul the next day. We learned that by taking on the planning and organizing ourselves, moving between provinces in Canada can be a relatively stress-free task.
