Great Calva & Knott From Mosedale - Avoiding The Crowds Round The Back O Skiddaw

Today we were in the far North of the Lake District looking for a quieter spot to enjoy the warm July sunshine. With the school holidays now on the tourist traps of the Lakes were a no go for us so we wanted somewhere a little quieter. Where better than the Back O Skiddaw. This area has some rounded gentle hills but among these we found an absolute belter of a fell. Great Calva really did take us by surprise with it's steep sides and rocky summit. For our second Wainwright of the day it was over to Knott which wasn't quite as interesting but still a nice walk. This was a decent walk at around 8 miles and with the warm July sunshine we were glad to make it back down the car for a paddle in the stream. This was a really good day out in a area that we're not usually that impressed by, but Great Calva really was worth the effort of getting up there.
