Blues by Time Composed by Charles Tuttle Composed for the Pioneer Junior High School jazz ensemble dir Sean Harrison. Performed by the Southland Jazz Orchestra at Bethel Congregational UCC 1/24/26 I was so bummed that I couldn't convince Dean to solo for a chorus, 'cause if he did, we would have had a solo from every person in the band! The title of this piece comes from a friend of mine. We were discussing what tunes his students were working on and he meant to say Blues by Five and Now's the Time (both very common tunes for beginning jazz musicians) but what he actually said was Blues by Time and Now's the Five, so I wrote this tune, and now he can say that students actually are working on Blues by Time. I also wrote a piece to compliment this one called Now's the Five, and we are going to be performing that one soon.
