A classic arcade boxing game developed by Sega's AM3 division, Title Fight was first released to arcades in 1992, and ran on Sega's System 32 arcade hardware. The game is thought to be the spiritual successor to Sega's earlier arcade boxing title Heavyweight Champ from 1987. Both titles sought to compete with Nintendo's highly regarded Punch-Out series. While Title Fight was certainly leaps and bounds over its Heavyweight Champ predecessor, it still fell short in many ways in comparison to the Punch-Out series. While the control scheme was an improvement over Heavyweight Champ's, they still felt clunky and unresponsive. Another shortfall was the lack of characters and the fact the game was so short. The whole game consisted of a mere 5 fights total. Likewise, you really can't dodge attacks, there really is no maneuver to move out of harms way. All you can really do is block, further making the game all the more challenging. For that reason, you really need to have an offensive strategy in order to survive in this game. One feature the game could've really benefited from would've been a power punch feature, similar to that of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. The arcade cabinet for the game featured a twin-stick control scheme, with boxing glove style handles. Both gloves actually work in tandem to pull of fighting maneuvers. Pulling down on either glove causes the other to deliver a low punch; while pushing up on either glove cause the other to deliver an uppercut. Pulling both gloves inward engages defensive blocking maneuvers. Pulling both gloves back engages defensive maneuvers and in many cases your character will deliver a low blow hit while guarding this way. The game features 8 playable characters, 4 for each player. The red glove characters are Maximum Schmidt, George Louisianna, Pinky Norman, and Barry Homes; while the blue glove characters are Chuck Denver, John Freezer, Tony Buntz, and Lucky Marcano. Despite the game's shortfalls, it was a blast to play in the arcades given its 2 player vs features, so you could battle it out with friends. The 8-way boxing glove themed joysticks also added a unique and innovative spin on the genre.
