My opinion: The most surprising thing about the bike is that it has a shaft drive. I was completely astonished when I double-checked this, because you don’t really notice the shaft in the way you do with other motorcycles that use this system. If I hadn’t looked it up again, I would have sworn without a doubt that it had a chain. Overall, the bike is really impressive and left nothing to be desired after my first short test ride. However, I have to say right away that I simply don’t like its looks – unfortunately, because the price-performance ratio, as is typical for Triumph, is outstanding. In general, it feels surprisingly similar to the Multistrada V4 S, although the Ducati is, of course, even more uncompromisingly focused on sportiness. The Tiger’s three-cylinder engine is fantastic with the shaft drive and sounds surprisingly sporty at higher revs – in fact, even sportier than the Speed Triple. In terms of ergonomics, the bike is very comfortable, yet it still allows for a more spirited riding style. Suspension and brakes also made an excellent impression during the short ride. Apart from the styling, there was absolutely nothing about the bike that bothered me. Compared to Ducati and BMW, Triumph has put together an excellent package in terms of price. The Tiger 1200 GT Pro could be a real alternative to the R 1300 GS, especially for those who value the low-maintenance shaft drive, which has clear advantages on long tours. At the same time, the Tiger feels noticeably sportier than the GS, though slightly less sporty than the Multistrada, and therefore positions itself as a very well-balanced middle ground that could attract quite a few potential buyers in this segment. Personally, I would still choose the Multistrada V4 S, if only because I love V4 engines. Nevertheless, Triumph deserves a lot of praise for this great machine, and anyone interested in this category should definitely give it a chance.
