Getting children involved for a successful hospital stay! An animated film produced at the Clinique with real little patients and the paediatric ward's mascots, Camille and her cuddly toy - animated for this event - enables the children and parents to see the staff, the location and the care pathway before the operation. To complement this and get the children actively involved in preparing for it, rather than just being spectators, during their preoperative consultation, the anaesthetist gives them a little child-sized tote bag containing: a games booklet providing details of the care milestones related to the film: colouring in to help understand the area to be operated on a fasting quiz a quiz on the seven hygiene mistakes a snakes and ladders game to locate the complicated care milestones of their experience: putting on the bracelet, going to the operating theatre without their parents, inserting, seeing and withdrawing the catheter textile felt pens for doing the games and colouring in the tote bag (printed illustration of Camille and her cuddly toy) an identity bracelet to enable them to familiarise themselves with the item and putting it on in the future a ball with an illustration of Camille and her cuddly toy (fun aspect – child buy-in)
