The Best of Gustav Mahler. Classical music in piano and violin. 00:00:00 Symphony No. 1 in D major - III. Feierlich und gemessen, ohne zu schleppen. 00:11:16 Symphony No. 2 In C Minor ‘Resurrection’ - V. Im Tempo Des Scherzos. 00:44:17 Symphony No. 3 In D Minor. Gustav Mahler, born on July 7, 1860, in Kaliště, Bohemia (now the Czech Republic), was an influential Czech-Austrian composer and conductor of Jewish descent. Growing up in a humble family, Mahler showed musical talent from an early age, starting to play the accordion at four and performing as a pianist by ten. Mahler began his career as a conductor in various theaters, including the Vienna Court Opera, where he worked from 1897 to 1907. During this period, he distinguished himself with his orchestration skills and the premiere of numerous works, despite facing discrimination due to his Jewish heritage. To advance his career, he converted to Catholicism in 1897. His compositions are known for their emotional and philosophical complexity, reflecting his personal experiences of suffering and loss. Among his most notable works are his symphonies, especially Symphony No. 8, nicknamed the "Symphony of a Thousand" due to the large number of musicians involved. Mahler passed away on May 18, 1911, but his musical legacy solidified posthumously, particularly from the 1960s onward.
