Industeel - A heavy swimmer in our pool!

Heat treatment is a crucial part of steel making and the quenching can be done with different methods depending on the requirements. In the video we see water quenching of a 450mm thick plate weighing 72T made in our Chateauneuf mill. The quenching bath is 14.1m long, 8m wide, 5m deep and contains 470m³ of water. Various effects of heat treatment: Ensure good metallurgical properties Dissolve carbides and other elements, improve weldability Obtain the right microstructure for the designated service conditions Reach the right hardness Steer the mechanical values, like yield and tensile strength, toughness, creep resistance Industeel is producing quarto plates in our three mills in Belgium and France and our dimensional program is the largest in the world. Our steel is melted via the electric arc furnace route, using scrap and decarbonized electricity, allowing a substantial reduction of the CO2 footprint per tonne of steel.
