From this sequence we can infer a timeline in which Rachel's ex-boyfriend did murder her at the party. This is the only plausible explanation for Mr Granger becoming desperate and credulous enough to be sold on the existence of time travel. Much less be persuaded to wait in an airless box for twelve hours. Rachel is unharmed in all the timelines we see, so we can assume the success of Mr. Granger's mission. Why Abe or Aaron recruited him is unclear. How he saved his daughter is also unknowable. We only understand he paid the dearest price: trading his life for hers. This dialog also implies Abe recruited Granger in the occulted timeline. The conversation between the two friends makes clear Abe once considered the possibility of informing a third party, or that it was in his nature to consider it. He interrogated Aaron to see if the same thought occurred to him. Aaron was taken aback, demonstrating he was unlikely to have contemplated that breach of trust — or self-interest.
