Imagine if Michael Jordan & Hakeem Olajuwon had the mentality of players from later years, like Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis... etc... and just imagine for one moment Michael Jordan & Hakeem Olajuwon TEAMING UP. They would have been unstoppable. Guys didn't do that in this era though, because they wanted to compete against the best. There is some context needed to the Bulls vs Rockets match-ups from Jordan & Pippen's careers. The Bulls ran in to the Rockets a number of times on long road trips. The Bulls went in to those road trips knowing they'd drop a few games. The schedule was brutal. In this particular season the Bulls had to play 8 road games in a row within a 13 day timespan. And keep in mind, during that era traveling standards sucked, compared to today. With & without Jordan, the Bulls suffered losses to the Rockets during the years of the Jordan era (including when he was playing baseball), during long road trips. So these were always tough games for the Bulls to win, during these brutal road trips. 1986: Lost to Rockets on 9th game of 9 game road trip on a back to back 1987: Lost to Rockets in 2nd game of a 6 game road trip on 1 night of rest 1992: Lost to Rockets in 2nd game of 6 game road trip on 1 night of rest 1993: Lost to Rockets in 3rd game of 9 game road trip on 1 night of rest 1994: Lost to Rockets in 5th game of 7 game road trip on 1 night of rest 1995: Lost to Rockets in 2nd game of 6 game road trip on a back to back So this was the Bulls 4th game in 6 nights, and once again, on one of these long circus road trips which included three back-to-backs. Find a more ridiculous schedule than this! Distance from Chicago to Boston (984 miles) to Milwaukee (1,074 miles) to Dallas (1,057 miles) to Houston (239 miles) to Oakland (1,915 miles) to Utah (730 miles) to Denver (519 miles) to San Antonio (932 miles) and back to Chicago (1,240 miles) for a grand total of 8,690 miles. The Bulls traveled nearly 9 thousand miles in 13 days, which would get you 1/3rd of the way around the planet, flying at the equator. Now add this in to the mix, the Bulls hadn't won in Houston since 1979! So no WONDER Da Bulls found themselves down 16 points in the first half & down 14 w/ less than 2 mins left in the 3rd quarter... ** Muffled VHS Audio in this video ** (Still certainly worth the watch, in our opinion. Some parts are more muffled than others.)
