AIR LEGEND, les 9 & 10 septembre 2023 🇫🇷 Le Northrop-Grumman E-2C Hawkeye, de la Flotille 4F de l’Aéronavale, est un avion unique dans ses apparences et dans ses capacités. Deux énormes turbines, des hélices de 4,11 m de diamètre et un « rotodôme » abritant l’antenne du radar lui conférant une silhouette à nul autre pareil. A l’avant, deux pilotes assurent la conduite de la machine. A l’arrière, dans la tranche « tactique » où ne pénètre pas la lumière du jour, trois opérateurs surveillent l’espace aérien et maritime sur 360°, par écrans interposés. Au dessus du fuselage tourne inlassablement le radar AN/APS 145, capable de détecter et poursuivre des cibles aériennes à plus de 500 km de distance. Les informations fournies par le radar sont complétées par celles du système de détection passive ALR-73, capable de déterminer avec précision la position et l’identité des autres radars émettant éventuellement dans la zone de patrouille. Le Hawkeye est également équipé d’un large éventail de moyens de communication : aux côtés des traditionnels émetteurs radio, l’équipage dispose de systèmes de liaison de données (liaison 11 et liaison 16) qui permettent les échanges d’informations tactiques Il possède depuis peu la capacité de liaison satellite FLEET-SATCOM. L’avion radar est le plus gros appareil embarqué et celui disposant de l’équipage le plus nombreux. Il est aussi le plus lourd au catapultage et à l’appontage. 🇬🇧 The Northrop-Grumman E-2C Hawkeye is a unique aircraft in both its appearance and capabilities. It features two enormous turbines, 4.11-meter diameter propellers, and a "rotodome" housing the radar antenna, giving it a distinctive silhouette. At the front, two pilots operate the aircraft, while at the back, in the "tactical" section where daylight does not penetrate, three operators monitor the airspace and maritime domain in a 360-degree view through screens. Above the fuselage tirelessly spins the AN/APS 145 radar, capable of detecting and tracking aerial targets at distances exceeding 500 km. The radar's information is complemented by the ALR-73 passive detection system, which accurately determines the position and identity of other potentially emitting radars within the patrol zone. The Hawkeye is also equipped with a wide array of communication means. In addition to traditional radio transmitters, the crew has data link systems (Link 11 and Link 16) for tactical information exchange. It recently gained the FLEET-SATCOM satellite communication capability. The radar plane is the largest carrier-based aircraft and has the largest crew.
