Dedicated to Indrayani Ajima, one of the eight mother goddesses (Astamatrikas) of the Kathmandu Valley, this jatra represents protection, purification, and prosperity for the community. ⭐ Historical Insights The worship of Indrayani Ajima is believed to date back to the Lichhavi period, when valley settlements began honoring powerful mother goddesses as protectors of the land. In Newar culture, Indrayani symbolizes strength against evil forces, good health, and community harmony. According to local oral tradition, the jatra began as a ritual procession to cleanse the town and invite divine blessings during times of disease and hardship.
