I WONDER WHAT'S BECOME OF "SALLY"? (Milton Ager) Irving Kaufman with Orchestra Accompaniment Vocalion B-14842, 1924. Another song by the indefatigable Irving Kaufman from my grandmother's record collection. "I Wonder What's Become of 'Sally'" was published in 1924, and this version was recorded on May 15th of that year. It is the flip side of "Memory Lane." The illustrations are taken from family photo albums and old college yearbooks. Below are the words: Old time pals and old time gals, Where are your smiles today? Friends of old with hearts of gold: Where have you drifted away? Where is Johnny, and Mary, and all the rest? And where is the one I love best? I wonder what's become of Sally, That old gal of mine! That sunshine's missing from our alley Ever since the day Sally went away. No matter what she is, wherever she may be, If no one wants her now, please send her home to me. I'll always welcome back my Sally, That old gal of mine! Laughing eyes like summer skies; Perfect but never sad. Just a child, a little wild, No one would say she was bad. Just a jolly-good-fellow Whose heart was right. God bless her and keep her tonight. No matter what she is, wherever she may be, If no one wants her now, please send her home to me. I'll always welcome back my Sally That old gal of mine!
