Layers of ink, wind, sun, prickly pear, Shasta water, and hidden calligraphy melt together like old emotions beneath fresh snowfall. For many years I have returned to the mountains—Tahoe, the Rockies, Utah—places where I first learned the stillness of winter, snowboard until my body injured, and the way snow can hold both ecstasy and bliss, pain and aching, beauty and poetry, without speaking a word. This piece was completed on an anniversary that arrived quietly, like a ghost at the window, reminding me how love, longing, and time leave their traces in the snowflakes.
