Jingfa, translated as The Classic of Laws, primarily discusses the key principles of governing states. Some scholars speculate that Jingfa may be the first classic of Huangdi Sijing, The Yellow Emperor’s Four Classics. This classic contains the philosophy of Huang-Lao Taoism, which was a political philosophy prevalent during the reigns of Emperor Wen and Emperor Jing of the Han Dynasty. It is said that the term "Huang-Lao" originated from the schools of thought of Huangdi and Laozi that were highly praised during the Warring States Period. However, it is still unclear whether it really came from Huangdi and Laozi themselves or whether it was influenced by the idea of Tuogu, that people at that time tended to cherish traditional philosophies and used the term "Huang-Lao" for indicating the importance of the thought. What is certain is that the Dao in Jingfa is considered the highest concept of the political philosophy system. The word "Dao" encompasses the concepts of path, truth, laws, and principle. The Dao is the objective laws that all things in the universe must follow. Virtue, on the other hand, is considered the laws, nature, and instincts of concrete things. This is an innate virtue, naturally endowed within concrete forms. Relatively speaking, an acquired virtue is the part of virtue that people can master after learning the Dao. Jingfa, The Classic of Laws, contains nine chapters: 1. Daofa; 2. Guoci; 3. Junzheng; 4. Liufen; 5. Sidu; 6. Lun; 7. Wanglun; 8. Lunyue; and 9. Mingli.
