A tiny minority of America’s industrial sites released more greenhouse gases than all the passenger cars in the country combined and a third of all chemicals that companies reported pumping into the air in 2014, according to a nine-month investigation by the Center for Public Integrity. More of the people who live within three miles of these polluters are poor or African-American than the country as a whole, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau. In Indiana, where pro-coal Gov. Mike Pence once called climate change a “myth”, industrial greenhouse-gas emissions are second only to Texas domestically, and exceed those from Israel, Greece and 185 other countries. Pence is the running mate of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. This film was produced by The Weather Channel in partnership with the Center for Public Integrity and USA TODAY/Gannett newspapers.
