Water shortages in Kakuma Refugee Camp have reached a critical level. Strong Unity for Refugee Empowerment (SURE/SHU), a refugee-led community organization operating inside Kakuma, is urgently requesting support to install a 10,000-litre water storage tank that will protect vital education, food security, and environmental programs. In this video, Chris from SURE explains how unreliable water supply is destroying community projects that support refugees and vulnerable families. Permaculture gardens, food tree planting, kitchen gardens, and children’s education programs are all at risk because taps often run dry and existing wells have dried due to extreme heat and climate stress. Without reliable water storage: • Crops are dying • Food security is collapsing • Environmental restoration is failing • Children’s education is disrupted • Community livelihoods are threatened A large water storage tank would allow the community to collect and preserve water when it becomes available and use it during shortages. The water would support irrigation for crops and food trees, drinking water for children, and essential sanitation for community programs. This is not a luxury project. It is an emergency response and a long-term resilience solution. How You Can Help Your support will help install: • A 10,000L community water storage tank • Safe plumbing and distribution fittings • Support infrastructure and installation • Sustainable water management training Every contribution helps protect lives, food systems, and education for refugee communities facing increasing climate challenges.
