The lectures on Biblical narrative continue with a discussion of the four modes of narration that take place in the Bible, noting how the distinct modes each provides an important feature. The dominant mode however is the dramatic, and this reflects the importance of the encounter of individual persons that are a reflection of theological commitments about the significance of individuals to God. While God is presented as transcendent, he is not so great as to fail to care for individuals in their plight, particularly when injustice is done. This moral framework is enhanced through devices of disclosure and various affective strategies, which make the reader or audience FEEL what is most important in God's eyes. It often transpires through various archetypal scenes, using archetypal motifs, and with archetypal character types. Although the individuality of the characters are never in doubt, neither is the universal significance of what happens to them.
