The majority of us meditate to relieve stress. But there are some who meditate to find out the truth about why we suffer, or why our human experience is so unsatisfying. Meditation is not just about watching our breath when we are distracted, it stabilises and calms the mind. But meditation also includes #vipassana, or #insight. While the act of calming the mind from distraction by watching the breath is known as #samatha. When samatha (quiet and silence) goes with vipassana (awareness of moment to moment experience), there is #samadhi. Intention matters when it comes to meditation, depending on why we choose to meditate in the first place, therefore there are varying results to the effects of meditation shown in academic research.
