OKP - Ryukyu & WWII History Tour with Jason Perry Sensei

The video presented here is a bit different than my normal karate focused videos. My friend, and a man I greatly admire, Jason Perry Sensei, and I would like to present the following video as kind of a short history lesson for some of the Ryukyu and World War II events that bring us to the Okinawa we know today. That’s quite a lot to wrap up in a 1.5 hour video. The project itself changed a bit as we were discussing what we wanted to record. In the beginning we had much more karate focus in our minds but as we started recording, and my own thirst for knowledge grew, I pushed Perry Sensei in to more of a history teacher role and I will say I don’t regret one minute of it. I have so much more I want to learn and the time spent recording this video series has only pushed me to become more knowledgeable of this island I call home. We do hope this video is just one small piece of information that brings more historical information your way. Maybe there’s new information presented to you for the first time or maybe this brings up memories of your own visits to Okinawa when you got out of the dojo and explored the island a bit. Maybe this will push you to get out of the dojo on your next visit and see the island from a different lens. This tiny island is filled with great locations to visit and absorb the history.
