Summer is when my flower borders are at their best, but achieving that fabulous show garden look takes more than just growing the right plants. In this video, I’ll walk you through the 4 simple but effective steps I take to keep mine looking tip top throughout the season. ALAN IS USING: Secateurs, hoe and trowel by Spear and Jackson - https://rb.gy/6wl4lh John Innes No 3 compost by Melcourt - https://rb.gy/f57db8 Plant supports, and plants from Blue Diamond Centres - https://rb.gy/xsfvf1 Hose by Gardena - https://rb.gy/ud9afv Here are my 4 steps: Deadheading - I show you how to deadhead repeat flowering plants like roses to encourage new growth and tidy up plants like peonies to keep them looking fresh. Weeding and top dressing - bare soil can quickly fill with weeds even if your border is densely planted. I show you how to remove the weeds and then top dress to suppress new growth. Adding a top dress also adds a professional looking finish around the plants! Supporting Plants - some of the most striking plants like delphiniums and geraniums love to topple over as they grow. I show you how to put in the right support for your plant. Filling the gaps. - The front of borders can often look bare or untidy. By adding low growing plants you cover the legs of taller plants and reduce the space for weeds. ALAN'S GARDENING BOOKS: https://www.penguin.co.uk/search-resu...
