It shoots great, looks incredible, and has been solid on the field. But there's one issue that's been driving me crazy — the bolt lock isn't engaging on empty magazines. If you're not familiar with the problem: when the magazine is empty, the bolt catch should lock the bolt to the rear. On my KS1, it's just... not doing it. And it's happening with multiple magazines, not just one. This is actually a known issue across several VFC AR platforms — some of you may have experienced the same thing with the HK416 and other models. *What's Actually Happening:* After taking the upper and lower apart, I can see the issue. There's a small tab inside that gets pushed up by a red follower piece in the empty magazine. That tab should engage the bolt catch and hold the bolt to the rear. But it's just not pushing high enough — there isn't enough force or material to make proper contact and lock it in place. *The Fixes I Try:* I watched a bunch of videos from other creators (shoutout to Badda Bing) who've dealt with similar issues on VFC platforms, and came up with two potential fixes: *Fix 1: Heat Shrink Tubing* 🔥 The idea is simple — slide a piece of heat shrink tubing over the bolt catch tab, hit it with a heat gun, and the extra thickness should give it enough material to properly engage the bolt lock. Got a multi-pack from Amazon with different sizes to find the right fit. Spoiler: getting the right size is trickier than it sounds, and I definitely didn't have scissors handy (knife to the rescue). The concern here is whether it'll actually stay on during use or eventually pop off. *Fix 2: JB Weld Steel Stick* 🪨 If the heat shrink doesn't work, plan B is JB Weld Steel Stick — an epoxy putty that I can mold onto the bottom of the bolt catch tab. The idea is to build up material underneath so it sits higher and properly engages. The challenge is applying just the right amount — too much on top and the bolt won't cycle, too little and we're back to square one. I try filing it down, shaping it, testing it over and over... and the results are SO close but not quite perfect. This is definitely a work in progress, and I'll keep you updated on whether the fix holds up on game day. *Has This Happened to You?* If you've had bolt lock issues on your VFC KS1, HK416, or any other VFC AR platform, drop a comment below! I'd love to hear how you fixed it — or if you just learned to live with it 😂 Also — poor Charlie (my dog) is walking around with a cone because he just got neutered. He makes a few cameos in this video looking sorry for himself.
