“Mici” is a popular traditional dish in Romania, made from a mixture of different meats (usually beef, pork, and lamb) and seasoned with herbs, spices, garlic, bone broth and baking soda for a bouncy texture. The origin of “mititei” is believed to date back to the 19th century. It is said that they were created by a Romanian cook who was making traditional sausages, but he ran out of casing, so he decided to form the sausages without it, resulting in the skinless, small sausage shape. The name “mititei” comes from the Romanian word “mici,” which means “small” or “little.” This refers to the small size of these sausages, making them perfect for grilling and easy to share as appetizers or snacks. “Mititei” are seved during social gatherings, barbecues, and traditional festivals. They are typically served with mustard, bread, and always cold beer. Ready? Let’s get started! Ingradients:1- 1/2 lb. ground pork ½ lb. ground beef 4-5 cloves garlic(minced) 1 tbsp salt 1tbsp pepper 1 tbsp paprika 1tbsp dried thyme 1 tsp baking soda+ 1 tsp lemon juice 1 cup of beef or bone broth Mix all the ingredients for a few minutes until everything is well combined then place the mixture into the fridge for a few hours or overnight to marinate the meat. Adding lemon juice to baking soda can help balance stomach acidity and promote better digestion. Take a small ball from the mixture and fry it in a pan. Taste it to see if it is salty enough. If necessary, add more salt, pepper, paprika or thyme to taste the mixture. Spray some oil onto a tray and form the mici. Preheat the grill to HI and start the smoker. Add the mici to the hot and oiled grill plate and grill them for about 10 minutes on each side or until they are fully cooked. Serve them hot, with fresh bread and a cold beer. Enjoy!
