This waterfall is part of the Grottos, a nature area East of Aspen, on Hwy 82 between Aspen and Independence Pass. At this spot, the Roaring Fork River comes from the high country down through rocks and small water falls to a deep pool. An unassuming sign noting the Grottos Day Use Area fails to give a picture of the stunning views and amazing features of this wilderness area, which is popular for hikes, beautiful views of cascading waterfalls, picnic areas, and an ice cave. This waterfall is a beautiful scene for meditation, with the beautiful snow capped peak in the background and the white noise of cool rushing water is the perfect setting to help you relax or sleep for a nap.
