Today we'll be specifically answering the question of why you NEED a Boss DM-2 Analog Delay pedal - and I don't care what kind of music you're making - because I'm here to make the case that - first of all - Delay is THE most essential effect out of anything that currently exists. Can we all agree on that? And if you believe that delay is essential, then the only question that remains is "Which vintage analog delay pedal should I get"? If you could only pick out one guitar effects pedal, The Boss DM-2 Delay is that one to reach for. Why? Because of the Bucket Brigade Device or BBD Chip! And what is this Bucket Brigade Device (or BBD) chip inside that creates this distinctive sound? Well, it's an analog circuit-within a circuit all contained within this small chip that's responsible for the delaying of the incoming audio signal. And it's important to note that this chip is actually the main reason why an analog delay could be made to fit into stompbox form. The term “Bucket Brigade” is a reference to a technique used by firefighters to extinguish a fire by passing buckets of water, one by one, down a line. To help explain how delay and BBDs work, let’s stick with this analogy. The water is your incoming guitar signal. The “buckets” come in the form of capacitors inside the chip. These capacitors “carry” the signal down the line much like the buckets carry the water. Because the capacitors are continuously filling and emptying, this slows down or “delays” the signal as it takes more time to pass through the sequence. So, if you're looking for a warm, analog, gritty, earthy, fuzzy, effect, look no further than the Boss DM-2. Background music by Doris Melton While you're here...
