Daastan-e-Azadari Lahore | The history of Lahore's Azadari | Zuljinah | Karbala Gamay Shah

Every year when the sun sets on Muharram 9, a procession begins at Nisar Haveli. It concludes on Muharram 10 at the famous Karbala Gamay Shah after passing through some of the city's most prominent mosques, imambargahs, and bazaars, including Bazaar, Ucchi Masjid, and Bhaati Chowk. Much has changed since the procession was first taken more than 200 years ago. The ancestors of the Qazilbash family favoured this route, and after Ghulam Ali Shah's death, they formally established a Zuljinah procession in his honour, which continues to this day. Shah was buried in Gamay Shah, which was later purchased and converted into an imambargah by the family's elders. Nawab Nisar Ali Khan, Qazalbash's great grandfather, is honoured by the Nisar Haveli. According to certain reports, Maharaja Ranjit Singh sold Gamay Shah and the imambargah was established in 1877. Produced By: Zohaib Hassan
