I've had a lot of questions over the years on why I had rotator surgery, and then a rotator cuff repair after that (my 2nd rotator cuff surgery). I hope that by talking about this I'll be of help to someone going through something similar. I was discouraged from talking about what happened to me, so for years I felt afraid to discuss what had occurred, but I now believe that sharing the events that happened is another step in my healing journey and a way to close the door on the painful events that transpired. I stand up for healthcare workers and for nurses, specifically, and I believe that most cases of violence toward nurses or healthcare workers is preventable. We need more security, and more consistent consequences for those who are perpetrators. I know that my story is long, so if you stick with the entire narrative, I hope you are left with encouragement and an insight into walking in someone else's shoes. I love being a nurse, even though I nearly lost my life.
